AGRICULTURE PRACTICES CALENDAR

It is not so rare practice to cultivate maize as a monoculture. However, the technology of preparation is very similar to that described in spring barley production. Nowadays ridging is not very common practice so intensive use of herbicide instead of mechanical weed suppression is present. At 7-9 leaves stage additional fertilising with UREA usually take place. Time of harvest is conditioned by weather conditions in autumn so in wet weather could be prolonged in late autumn.

IRRIGATION PRACTICES

Irrigation practice is not regular in maize production. However in very dry seasons at some areas in both regions farmers occasionally irrigated maize fields. Sprinkler technology is commonly used in such occasions.

PEST AND DISEASE RISK

There are not any major pests or disease in maize production.

CROP ROTATION

It is not so rare case to cultivated maize as a monoculture but it is not a recommended act. In many cases wheat cultivation disconnect longer period (3 or 4 years) of maize cultivating. Otherwise all types of crop rotation mentioned in chapter 3.5.1 are also present in agriculture production. Data is assembled based on expert knowledge.
