Weather monitoring

This section provides information on weather conditions across the EU and neighbouring countries.
The following weather indicators can be displayed as European-wide maps at 25x25 km resolution: Average, minimum and maximum temperature, climatic water balance, number of cold days, number of days with significant rainfall, number of hot days, rainfall and temperature sum. When applicable, the indicators are displayed as absolute values as well as compared to the long-term average (LTA).

Alternatively, graphs can be selected to display the course of temperature, rainfall and the climatic water balance since the beginning of the year at country or sub-country level (only for EU Member States). The underlying data come from several thousands of meteorological stations.
The weather maps are updated three times every month.
Weather graphs are updated every 5 days.

Crop monitoring

This section provides information on the status and growth progress of crops across the EU. This information is based on crop simulations using the MARS Crop Yield Forecasting System. The following crops are addressed: Winter wheat, spring barley, grain maize, sunflower, potato, rye, sugar beet and oilseed rape.

The following indicators can be displayed as European-wide maps at 25x25 km resolution: Crop development stage, relative soil moisture content, rainfall around sowing, rainfall around flowering, longest heatwave around flowering, rainfall around harvesting.
Alternatively, graphs can be selected to display crop development and the course of relative soil moisture content since the beginning of the season at country or sub-country level (only for EU Member States).

The crop data are updated every ten days.

Remote sensing

This section provides information on the conditions of green biomass across the EU arable land and pasture.

This information is based on remote sensing data obtained from the MARS Crop Yield Forecasting System.This information is based on the biophysical variable fAPAR version 2 at 1km of resolution as provide from the EC Copernicus Land Monitoring Service.

The indicators can be displayed as European-wide maps at grid level. The data are updated every ten days.

Fruit tree monitoring

This section provides information on the agro-meteorological conditions for growth progress of fruit trees across the EU. This information is based on observed weather parameters from the MARS Crop Yield Forecasting System. Currently, information relevant to Apple Trees is presented with a focus on agro-meteorological risks to flowering.

The following indicators can be displayed as European-wide maps at 25 x 25 km resolution focused on apple growing areas: frost risk around flowering based on minimum daily air temperature.

Alternatively, graphs can be selected to display indicators relevant to fruit tree development during the growing season relative to the long term average conditions since 1991 at country or sub-country level (only for EU Member States).

The data are updated every month.
